Why should anyone retire?
After spending 25 or even 20 years of your life pursuing your dream you either achieve your dreams or you don't.
Now it is time to change tracks.
You have gathered experiences good and bad you have learnt your lessons at the best school in the universe ---life.
Now it is time to share your learning.
So what if every one of us consider going back to school, the schools made of brick and mortar, the schools many of us hated to go to, the schools our children go to, not often liking it.
It could be one of the interventions that may help change the education scenario.
These teachers could fill in the slot which ad hoc contract teachers are now filling.
The contract teachers are often under qualified and underpaid.
The children are the victims of an indifferent system when this should be the sector which should be managed with the utmost care, as it handles the lives of our children.
Shouldn't they get the best?
There is something called compulsory military service in many countries.
There could be a voluntary educational service for people who have worked in various fields.
These voluntary teachers could be channelised to any neighbourhood school, private and Government.
Can this happen?
It is happening in many schools which follow innovative models. The teachers are exposed to some training many of them go for BEd too.
I have experimented this myself or I'm in the middle of such an experiment .
I quit my career as a journalist after despairing about the sad plight of students in the country for a long time.
I can't motivate hundreds of educated and enlightened people to join the education sector and change the learning experience of our children.
But at least I can do what I can.
So here i am teaching children in a school in Andhra Pradesh.
It is a tiny school with just 120 children and is called Peepal Grove School in Chittoor district.
So that was my dream.
I'm living it.
I can't claim to be a great teacher. But I'm sure I will make it and will give all I have to my children.
